Nutritional Therapy for People Living with Cancer

My mum died of cancer in 2021 and her passing was the primary motivation for me to study nutritional medicine and become a practitioner. I had become her primary carer at home, and I saw close-up how brutal the side-effects of the treatment options that the healthcare system offered. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery are the three main treatment options. They are mostly given under the premise that they will extend life, but they often do not cure, and can often make life miserable. It’s sad to say but most cancer sufferers do not die from the cancer but from the side-effects of the treatment they receive.

Even back in 2019, I already had learned a great deal about cancer and how the current standard-of-care is somewhat blinkered and tied by its own practices and protocols.

Getting a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. A great deal can be achieved through diet and lifestyle changes, starting with a comprehensive health assessment and history.

I use the metabolic model for cancer therapy and have seen very good results. My longest running client came to me with stage 4 prostate cancer at the beginning of 2024 when his treatment options had run out. Chemotherapy and other prescription drugs had created huge amounts of inflammation. He was very overweight, his skin had become reddened, very sensitive and inflamed, and cancer was showing in his lymph, organs and bones. He was on death’s-door and his time was nearly up - or so he thought.

After one year of intensive work on hs diet, working specifically on metabolic health, he lost weight, his skin returned to normal and latest scans in the summer of 2025 show that all his soft tissue cancer has now gone completely. He has been able to indulge again in his passion - sailing - specifically as a sailing instructor - which he never thought would be possible again. He’s not out of the woods yet but has made huge strides, and in his own words, at age 61 “I am the fittest and most energetic I’ve ever been”. His oncologist agrees, and says his fitness and general health has had an enormous impact on his success so far.
